Calling All European Champagne Ambassadors!
The CIVC search for Europe’s top Champagne educator.
April 2nd 2008 - The Comité Interprofessionnel du Vin de Champagne (CIVC) is pleased to announce the launch of the fourth annual Champagne Ambassador’s Award. The competition, created in 2005, recognizes and rewards the work of wine lecturers, tutors and teachers.
This year, the theme will focus on the effervescent nature of Champagne. Three UK finalists will be invited to compete in the national heat held in London on 15th September at the Dorchester Hotel. The UK winner will then go on to the European final in Epernay held over four days from October 20th–24th. There the successful candidates will compete to be named the European Champagne Ambassador and claim the Grand Prix. Two additional awards the Jury’s Special Prize and the CIVC Prize will also be presented. The competition is open to seven other countries including Germany, Belgium, Spain, France, Italy, Holland and Switzerland.
“The European Champagne Ambassador’s Award celebrates the passion and knowledge of Champagne educators”, says Françoise Peretti, Director of the Champagne Information Bureau. “As the world’s number one export market, the UK has a long tradition of Champagne expertise. This competition provides us with a wonderful opportunity to recognise and honour the exceptional wine education in our country.”
With award winners in two of the last three years, the UK has a history of success in the Awards. Last year’s entrant Tom Forrest commented, “The whole process was really enjoyable as well as a great learning opportunity. It was a very worthwhile experience; you gain insight and knowledge that can only benefit you and your students.”
Application forms can be downloaded from www.ambassadeurschampagne.com and must be returned by 13th June 2008.
