International Distiller of the Year Reveals Exclusive Balblair Vintage

Balblair Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, which was recognised for its excellence this month as part of its parent company’s International Distiller of the Year win, has unveiled its newest vintage release – a limited edition that adds to an impressive family of super-premium malts.

Balblair 1975 is the latest hand-picked choice of Master Distiller, Stuart Harvey and follows the global success of its vintage predecessor, Balblair 1979. Only 3000 bottles of the spirit, which has been wholly matured in oak sherry casks, will be made available internationally in specially selected whisky stores.

Following glamorous launches in Edinburgh and London last year, Balblair has gone on to experience an incredible twelve months, firmly establishing itself as ‘the’ quality choice for discerning whisky drinkers throughout the world. Each of its vintages are specially selected after a complex tasting and nosing process at the Balblair distillery, during which the most excellent whiskies – those that have reached the peak of their perfection – are chosen and named by the year of their casking.

With a rich depth of colour and subtle sweetness in flavour, Balblair 1975 is the most limited of the whisky’s vintages to date and joins existing malts, Balblair 1989 and Balblair 1997. Described as ‘outstanding’, it is a carefully balanced malt, complete with warm spicy aromas and hints of raisins and toffee. On the palate, it is rich and creamy with traces of chocolate that leads to a long, lingering finish.

Says Margaret Mary Clarke, Balblair Brand Manager: “Without a doubt, Balblair 1975 is one of the finest vintages we have discovered to date. We have spent a great deal of time and care in selecting it and I’m confident that whisky lovers throughout the world will not be disappointed. It certainly makes a fantastic and very special dram.”

Balblair was recently described by Whisky Magazine as being an integral reason why its parent company, Inver House Distillers, scooped the much-coveted International Distiller of the Year title at last month’s Icons of Whisky event, beating hundreds of regional and global finalists. The magazine credited it with ‘shaking off the old fashioned Scottish image of whisky…replacing it with a modern contemporary approach without losing the heritage at its core’.

Attention to quality detail also follows through to its packaging. Balblair 1975 is couched in a stylish and unusual keepsake box that shows an atmospheric image of the Dornoch Firth, towards Balblair distillery – a picture taken by local photographer Finn McRae.
