"Extreme" Beer, Anyone?

I think the title is a tad misleading. After all, the "extreme" comes from them being out of the norm in terms of taste, right? Do we see "extreme wines" or "extreme vodkas"? Why does this have to be such a big deal to beer? |

BrewDog, makers of Punk IPA, Rip Tide, and Hop Rocker, has recently come under fire from the alcohol campaign group Alcohol Concern, for brewing and marketing more fuller-bodied brews which boast alcohol contents of upwards toward 12% and 10 times more hops than usual beers. One of Alcohol Concern's complaints is that one bottle can measure up to 330mLs, more than the daily recommended alcohol amount for men. The other complaint is that BrewDog is targeting the younger crowd, which is known for more binge drinking.
BrewDog fought back, denying that they were encouraging reckless drinking, saying that their customers wouldn't be able to consume large quantities of their beverages at a time. "There's no way someone can drink 20 a night," said Martin Dickie, BrewDog's main brewer. He also said that his company's products were intended for home consumption, not for pubs or bars.
