Ocho tequila (you will find by talking with any London bartender that knows about tequila has been long awaited) finally arrived in the UK for January. This spirit is a labour of love created by the Consejo Regulador del Tequila or CRT (it's on every bottle sold) appointed Ambassador of Tequila to Europe, Tom Estes. Tom has been the gentleman responsible for selling the first tequilas to Europe through his international bar and restaurant group, Cafe Pacifico/ La Perla Bar. He is offering his Blanco and Reposado tequila immediately and will have the Anjeo ready in 2009 (I think). This is a chance to start serving a really premium tequila that doesn't break the bank - priced similar to Gran Centenario tequilas.
I've already tried both ages and they are fantastic. I love the fact that he is in cooperation with Don Felippe (of El Tesoro / Tapatio fame) to produce his signature tequila. Los Altos agaves really charge this tequila with a blend of earthy and citrus notes perfect for sipping on it's own and mixing into your favourite margaritas. It reminds me of a love child of Herradura Blanco and El Tesoro Platinum with a bit of 7 Leguas Plata for the peppery finish. Oh and I almost forgot to mention... it's the world first 'Vintage Tequila' with the estate printed on each bottle. Wine meets spirits...
What's your favourite?

Patron is the number one at the moment, the real bartenders choice.

Patron is a sell-out tequila. substituting tradition and flavour for the mass market. The real tequilas are 7 Leguas, Ocho and Arette. Boo-ya!

I disagree, Patron is not mass market, it has good distribution and is a quality drink. "the real bartenders choice". I would have to agree.

Maybe not mass market, but worth the search: Corazon Añejo; Dark amber color, aged in American oak at least one year. Sweet, floral honeyed nose. Caramel and tea undertones. Very smooth.

Um, I don't think this message has ANYTHING to do with Tequila. I'm sure there are other more appropriate places to post this kind of stuff, but I'm absolutely sure that here is not it. Please save your spam for people who want it and not post it where individuals are trying to have an intelligent conversation.

I had the pleasure of trying Patron XO Cafe in a bar in Glasgow last week, that is incredible, I have never tried it, that is an awesome drink, a great way to start a tequila repetoire.

That's the one that tastes like coffee, right? It's not a strong coffee flavor (definately not Kahlua), but more of an undertone. Also, the tequila flavor isn't too strong, but you definately know its there.

This sounds interesting; I'm not a big tequila fan, but I do like coffee. I'll have to ask for this the next time I'm out!

I have had this, not too long ago. It is not overpowering, it just makes a good strong coffe fuller. Very smooth!

My humble advice on tequila is this:
Don't buy a brand you see in a magazine or on TV. These big companies spend more money on their ads than they do their product. Make sure the tequila says "100% AGAVE" on the label. Tequila is made from the agave fruit, and if it's not 100% agave, it's mixed with other crap and it's not pure, hence not a high quality product. Same with "Made in Mexico" or "Hecho en Mexico"; Agave grows in Mexico, and if it's not on the label it's an inferior product. If you're gonna spend the money, make sure it's spent on somethin' GOOD!

Last year I went on vacation in Cabo, and was able to try Lapis Añejo. I have not been able to get it here (but I haven't looked really hard), but it was amazing. Has anyone else had this?

It is obviously a product of Mexico, and you can buy it online. It is a little pricey though, about $80 (before shipping) for 750mL.

OK, so I'm a total Van Hagar fan, and I would buy Cabo Wabo even if Sammy Hagar didn't make it (probably). Cabo Uno Añejo Reserva is the absolute best tequila I've ever had. OK, so it is very expensive, around $300.00 a bottle, but it should last a long time!

Cabo Wabo does come out with some fantastic tequilas, but only for very special occasions!
