Diageo, the world's largest beverage company, has launched legal action against J Sainsbury, the supermarket chain, over copyright infringement of its "Pimm's" brand. Diageo believes that Sainsbury's "Pitcher's" product (an alcoholic beverage to which lemonade and/or fruit can be added) breaches their intellectual property rights. While the lawsuit was something the industry didn't see coming, it's not much of a surprise in the current economic climate, where tensions between suppliers and retailers has been on the rise. Sainsbury's is one of the biggest Diageo customers in the UK, so it will be interesting to see how this one plays out.

Right. Because us consumers are so stupid that they can't tell the difference between two different products with different names...

That's a good point. If things were better economically, I wonder if this would have happened.
